I had to wait a little bit longer for my Degustabox last month as there was a problem with it in transit, but it was worth the wait as there were some exciting products in there; lots that I’ve never heard of, actually!
So what was inside the February Degustabox?
Koko Dairy Free Original
I’ve never had dairy free ‘milk’ so I’m not sure what I was expecting from this. It looks sure enough like usual cows milk, but this is made with coconut milk. The coconut flavour isn’t overly strong but you can certainly taste it. I tried this on its own, in a smoothie (look out for the recipe coming soon), and in my coffee. I can’t say it affected the taste of my coffee much, perhaps just made it a little sweeter.
Heinz No Added Sugar Beanz
Beans are beans to a lot of people, but some brands are far too sweet for me. These new no added sugar beans from Heinz were tasty, but they still tasted a little sweeter than my usual brand.
Kabuto Noodles (Vegetable Laksa)
I’ve seen this brand in the shops but never tried it, though the packaging is really funky and eye catching! I’ve also heard of a laksa but never tried one of those, either. This noodle pot is more like a soup, with noodles. You need to fill this pot practically right to the top with water, which you don’t normally need to do, but when it was “cooked” I understood why! The soup part was fairly watery but super tasty – it had a nice spice to it. And the noodles just float in it – best eaten from a bowl!
Bebeto (Cheese Cake Gummies/Candy Crush Gummy Mix)
We love our sweets in our house and have a tub full of them for treats, but I’d never heard of this brand. The cheese cake gummies did like like slices of cheesecake, and tasted quite like cheesecake too! I’m sure a lot of you have heard of the candy crush saga game (I played it once upon a time!) and these do look like the sweets in the game!
Blossom Hill Fruit Bloom (Summer Fruits)
I love a glass of wine every now & again and I will drink any colour, though I do prefer sweeter wines. I’ve heard of the Blossom Hill Fruit Bloom wine, but haven’t got around to trying it. It is quite sweet and really light, so I actually drank this really quickly like pop – oops!
Peppersmith Dental Chewing Gum (Peppermint)
I’ve never heard of this brand before, but Peppersmith’s chewing gum and mints are sweetened with xylitol and contain no sugar or aspartame. So they are obviously better for you than many other brands. The chewing gum was, well, chewy; like you expect chewing gum to be. The flavour didn’t last for long after chewing, but it did stay soft whereas others can turn hard to chew.
Coldpress Juice (Fruity Greens)
I have to say, I thought the flavours in this one looked interesting; apple, banana, kale, kiwi, spinach, lime, and….celery. Celery is one of my will not eat foods so I was quite dubious about this one; though I do like all of the other flavours. I think without celery this would have been fine, but I just could not get past the undertone of it, so I wasn’t so keen. Jacob seemed to like it though!
New York Delhi’s Americanos
Although I haven’t heard of this brand, I have heard of people eating coffee beans and always thought – what’s that all about? With the addition of chocolate though – well, I was eager to try them; I will try anything once. They weren’t actually as bitter as I was expecting, and very easy to eat. Lovely with a cuppa! I also have a recipe coming up including these, so keep an eye out…
Diablo Chocolate Coated Wafer
I’ll never say no to a chocolate coated wafer biscuit, but this is also a brand I’d not heard of before. This wafer bar has no added sugar, so is more of a not-so-naughty nice treat! It was pretty much as I expected it to be; a nice mixture of wafer and chocolate, and creamy in the middle.
Willy Chase’s FITCORN (Goats Cheese, Red Onion & Thyme)
I actually received this popcorn and flavour in the August Degustabox, and it was just as nice as I remembered!
Maui and Sons Dark Chocolate Coated Banana Chips
The boys had most of these for a snack as they love banana chips, but I did have a taste. The chocolate makes a welcome addition to the usual plain banana chip. There weren’t very many in the packet though.
Just Bee Honey Water (Blueberry)
I thought this was an interesting concept; water sweetened with honey rather than sugar, with added blueberry juice for a fruity flavour. It is made by beekeepers too so supports wildlife, which is a great thing. The drink itself had a strange taste for me. I could slightly taste the honey, but the most powerful was the blueberry. I’m not sure it went great with the honey water.
Double Dutch Premium Mixer (Pomegranate & Basil)
It states on the bottle that this mixer can be enjoyed with a spirit or on its own. I ended up drinking it on its own as I didn’t have any suitable spirits in. The taste at first was a little strange; it tasted strongly of basil. But once I’d had a few more sips, it turned into more of a sweet herby flavour and it was quite enjoyable.
Willy’s Apple Cider Vinegar
I’ve never tried apple cider vinegar but I have been told it’s good to use in a bath! I have read that it’s also good for poaching eggs, so that’s what I did. I just poured a drop into my boiling water before poaching my egg, and it did actually turn out nicer than usual.
