Ever since I heard of Degustabox some time last year, I have been dying to try one. I mean, who doesn’t love a surprise box of food delivered to their door, once a month, for a cost less than you would pay in the shops? In a Degustabox you will receive 10-15 products, some of which are new to the market so you will be one of the first to try them, and you may even find something new that you love!

I have to admit, I almost jumped for joy when I was asked if I would like to try the Degustabox for June! The offer of food tends to do that to me; anyway… When it arrived, I couldn’t wait to see what was inside. The contents of the June Degustabox were:

Haywards Medium & Tangy Silverskin Onions

I love pickles and I love onions so I eat a lot of pickled onions and had expectations of what these would taste like. They are rather tangy and so are a great accompaniment to a salad or a picking platter, which I often have when I can’t decide what to eat!

Schwartz American Smokehouse Homemade Burger Mix

I really liked the idea of this to give a unique flavour to burgers in an easy way, but in reality it didn’t work very well for me. As it is more of a paste, it made the burgers even more ‘wet’ and they took a long time to cook and fell apart. The flavour was good though.

Branston Spicy Tomato Relish

I love spicy food and almost always have a spicy accompaniment with my food, so I was looking forward to trying this. It is very chunky and quite spicy, so probably not ideal for those who only like mild spice. I love it though!

Heinz Amoy Coconut Milk

I don’t use coconut milk much any more and it has been a long while since I have used it, so I decided to make a curry with this, specifically a lamb korma. It was lovely & creamy and complemented the lamb really well.

Zeo Cloudy Lemon

Cloudy lemonade is one of my favourite soft drinks so I was looking forward to trying this. It doesn’t taste like the usual cloudy lemonade you would find in a plastic bottle from the supermarket, it tasted more premium, which it is. It didn’t taste overly sweet but had a lovely distinctive lemon flavour.

Sacla Classic Basil Pesto Pots

I don’t often have pesto but I have used it on a savoury tart, and this time I decided to make pesto pasta. I love that these are individual pots which is just enough for one serving, rather than having to open a full jar and possibly wasting half of it. The pesto itself tasted a bit bitter for me, but I did have some of the pasta the following day and it tasted a little more mellow.

Butterkist Yogurt Coated Popcorn (product of the month)

I love anything yogurt coated so I was really excited to try this! It tasted so yummy, and gave an extra dimension to the popcorn! I could have actually sat and eaten the whole sharing bag, but the boys wanted some too. They also loved it!

Bakedin Mug Brownie Mix

Hubby had this for dessert, though of course I had to taste test it. The mixture itself makes enough to half fill a standard size mug, but it is that rich that it is more than enough! The brownie is very chocolaty and gooey, and you could actually add your own other ingredients to this, such as mini marshmallows, to make a unique mug brownie. It only takes a couple of minutes to make as you only need to add butter and milk (or water) and then microwave it for a minute. The perfect quick, easy, and tasty dessert!

Marstons King Star Crafted Lager

I’m not really a lager drinker nowadays so hubby had most of this, but I did taste it. I could tell it was a premium lager as it had a very distinctive taste. Hubby thought it had a woody taste to it but he did enjoy it.

Miracle Noodle

I love the idea of these as a low calorie, carb free alternative to pasta. They did smell a bit funny but it was a natural smell and it did disappear after cooking. They were quick & easy to cook, but I did find them hard to get apart while eating, and they were also hard to chew – they had a strange texture! I did eat them all, but I think these are more of an acquired taste.

Smooze Mango & Coconut Fruit Ice

I love a fruity ice lolly so these sounded very tempting to cool me down on a (rare at the moment) hot day. One of these ices is just the right size, though I did find the packet a little hard to open once frozen – it would perhaps be better on a stick but as these come ready to be frozen it is more suitable like this. Although they are purely fruit, they had a really creamy taste, mainly coconut with a hint of mango. Pretty much a frozen smoothie!

Destrooper-Olivier Belgian Butter Biscuits

When I saw the words ‘Belgian’, ‘butter’, and ‘biscuits’, I knew I was going to enjoy these! And enjoy them I did. So much so, I may have sat and ate almost the whole pack in one sitting – oops! They were bigger than I expected but the size of one is ideal to have with a cup of coffee, as they have a very buttery and rich flavour.

Overall, I really enjoyed this Degustabox. It was great value for money as all the products were full size rather than sample size and I did try all of them and would buy some of them separately – especially the yogurt coated popcorn!
