You want to redecorate your home, but you don’t know where to start. What colour schemes should you choose? When is it time for new furniture? Don’t worry- we’ve got you covered!
Here’s how to successfully remodel your home in five easy steps:
Step 1: Draw up a remodelling plan
Sit down and make a list of all the things that you want to change. Don’t be afraid to dream big. The more specific, the better.
1) Paint the first floor a dark shade of green
2) Expand the second story by adding a bedroom and an en suite bathroom for extra space
3) Buy a new table with benches instead of chairs, so our family has more seating at mealtimes
4) Buy a new cow-hide rug for the living room, check out these options: https://www.cowhiderugslondon.co.uk/blog/cowhide-rug-use-in-different-enviroments.html
5) Upgrade to more energy-efficient appliances
Figure out in which room you want to do what, and how it will look in the end. That way, if something doesn’t work out how you would like it to, you may be able to easily go back in time by just changing a few details in your plan.
Step 2: Decide on a budget
It’s important to know how much money you’re willing to spend before making any purchases, as your budget will likely influence your decorating decisions. If you don’t have enough money for a professional remodel, there are still things you can do to improve your home.
Step 3: Get all the tools and materials you need
After you’ve got the general idea of what you’re going to do, get everything necessary for doing it. It may be different kinds of paint, whatever items you’ll use for decoration or even building furniture if that’s part of your plan.
Step 4: Start working, if you are able to do so without help
Start small – test the waters by choosing one room or area of the house to focus on first. If your bedroom could use a revamp but your living room needs a major update, start with the bedroom since it’s a less complex job. Then you can start another remodel on the other room once you’ve finished.
The most recommended way is always doing things by yourself if it’s possible. Picking up all the necessary items and putting them where they belong will give you a better feeling about your project at the same time as it takes less time than getting a friend to help you.
Remember: If your renovation goes over budget, don’t be afraid to make some tough decisions about your plans- maybe just paint one floor of the house instead of painting both? Don’t feel bad about scaling back if something isn’t feasible for your current budget!
Step 5: Enjoy the result of your work
Finally, after all the hard work is done and everything is put in its place once again, enjoy your new home! You can always make more changes later on if you’re not satisfied with something. Maybe get a new couch for your living room or a fresh coat of paint for the walls. Your home is now your own, and you can do whatever you want with it!
