A tidy desk is a tidy mind. When you have a lot of things to do and you need to be absolutely focused to do them, having a clean and well-organised workspace is a must. Even the most challenging tasks will be easier to tackle in a good and positive environment.
Keeping your desk tidy may not be so easy, especially considering the number of things we regularly have on our desks. Computer monitor, keyboard and mouse, the cables connecting them, and other stationeries can quickly turn even the most spacious desk into a mess. These next few tricks we are about to discuss in this article will help you keep your desk clean at all times.
Go Wireless
If you haven’t already, now is the perfect time to switch to wireless peripherals. A wireless keyboard and mouse combo is not only more affordable than ever, but also easier to use and is compatible with more devices.
With a wireless keyboard and mouse set, you no longer need cables to connect the peripherals with your laptop or desktop PC. A tiny Bluetooth transmitter slots directly to your computer’s USB port and both the mouse and the keyboard will work instantly.
You can also switch to a wireless headset or a Bluetooth speaker to further minimise cables on the desk. For some final touches, pick up a USB hub so that you don’t have to plug other things (i.e. an external drive) to the back of the computer.

Add More Space
There are actually simple things you can do to add more space to the desk. Adding a document shelf to the desk, for example, will help you eliminate any mess associated with paperwork. You can keep documents organised even when you have a lot of them to go through.
The same can be said for a monitor riser. Desk accessories such as the Vonhaus monitor riser are great for adding space to a desk and keeping everything organised. The space underneath the monitor can be used for storing your keyboard and mouse when not in use.
Similar accessories are also available for drawers. A drawer organiser or small plastic containers are great for keeping smaller items organised. You can also add a desk organiser for your stationeries. Just make sure you get one that matches the desk nicely.
Eliminate Noise
Old documents you no longer need, pens that no longer work, and other unused items are actually noises that need to be removed. They greatly reduce efficiency and often waste valuable space around the desk.
It is a great idea to do regular desk cleaning at least once a week, preferably at the end of the week. Throw away items you no longer need and put everything back in the correct places. You’ll feel so much better when you see a tidy desk the following Monday.
As you can see, these steps are simple, but they really help keep your work desk organised. With the space kept clean and tidy, there will be no challenge that you cannot overcome at work.
