If you are looking for extreme ways to shake up your garden, a swimming pool has got to be the biggest change you would ever have! Of course, with a great swimming pool comes great responsibility. The first thing we all think of when a swimming pool comes to mind is long hot summers, lazing by the pool. And if you are anywhere in the vicinity of Lincolnshire, you know that long hot summers aren’t always the most dominant reason to have a swimming pool! But there are some fantastic reasons, and not so fantastic reasons to have one installed in your back garden.

Fantastic Reason #1: Exercise

If there’s one great reason to get a pool, it’s the fact that swimming is one of the best forms of exercise you can take up. It’s great for your cardiovascular system, it gets the blood going, and it’s a low impact exercise. This means that you don’t place wear and tear on your joints, unlike weight lifting or running.

Not So Fantastic Reason #1: Maintenance

You’ve got to look after the pool, by putting chlorine in it to make sure that it is clean, but you’ve also got to make sure that the pool is working properly. Making sure that the pump repairs are up to date and everything is in fully working order can take a lot of time and money, and can sully the enjoyment of your pool somewhat.

Fantastic Reason #2: It’s Perfect For Summer

When the sun does come out, it comes out in full force, and those summer months will be where you get the most use out of your pool. Not only can you enjoy summer the way it was meant to be enjoyed, but you can have pool parties, barbecues, or it’s a perfect excuse to have all your friends around!

Not So Fantastic Reason #2: What About The Rest Of The Year?

Sure, the summer means that you can get your use of the pool every day, but the rest of the year, where it’s glum, miserable, and ever so slightly cold, means that you won’t be inclined to venture out into the pool so much. On the other hand, you could invest in a pool heater, which can eat up your finances, but if you are serious about getting a pool, you will make use of it come hell or high water!

Fantastic Reason #3: It’ll Increase The Value Of Your Home

Gardens are a very desirable space in the real estate market, and gardens with swimming pools are like gold dust. You will increase the value of your home infinitely, meaning that if you ever plan on selling it, you will get an excellent price.

Not So Fantastic Reason #3: Would You Want To Leave A House That’s Got A Pool?

You spent time and money investing in this swimming pool, so you might not want to give it up without a fight! Besides, having a swimming pool does make you the envy of everyone on your street, even if you don’t plan on using it all year round.

Getting a pool is very much a double-edged sword, especially in Britain, but we’ve all thought about getting one! So if you’ve got the space, and the money, then why don’t you?

  1. Having a pool may be a lot attractive and great however the downsides will always be at the backside. Thanks for sharing your thoughts on this topic.

  2. Hi, Stacey! You are indeed correct: there are pros and cons of having a swimming pool in your house. Interested homeowners must plan thoroughly together with the rest of their family members before installing one. In our case, we installed a swimming pool because we love to see our kids have fun as they grow up. Nothing is more rewarding than seeing them enjoy their element. Sure money and maintenance can be a problem, but we found sustainable solutions along the way. Cheers!

  3. We installed a pool because our family is big (me, my sister’s, and brother’s babies). We can save money if the kids stayed in our compound and soak in the pool. Each of us oldies makes sure that we take turns in cleaning the area. We also share in the expenses. What makes it sustainable is the fact that everyone practices proper care on using the pool.

  4. We are investing in a swimming pool because we are a family of swimmers. We don’t want to travel for long hours to swim and have fun. So far, having a pool is good and it makes us fit.
