I’m not sure how many of my readers are on Goodreads but if you are, then you can friend me here. Earlier this year I set my reading challenge at 104 books. This is double last year and averages out at two books a week. I don’t think I’m going to manage to hit it though as I’ve had quite a few reading slumps this year. I’m currently on book number 49 though, so I think I will surpass what I read last year. I might lower it a bit actually, just so I can complete it 😉
A recent book I have been sent to review is Follow Me Home by Jen Benjamin. I quite enjoy reading fiction books about authors; the authors obviously have experience of being an author, so they can go at it from a new angle – though still keeping it fictional, obviously!
A Chick Lit story about a Lit Chick
Katie Kendall has everything going for her. She wrote a bestselling novel and now it’s being made into a film. She should be walking on air but, instead, her life seems to be spiraling out of control. Her roommate (ahem, husband) completely checks out and her life is bombarded by a completely new cast of characters including a famous Hollywood director and a heartthrob who anyone would kill to spend time with!
All Katie wants is a place where she feels at home but has her success made that impossible?
Follow Me Home is a fun read for anyone who wants a sweet story and a smile.
Jen Benjamin is a new author to me so I went into this with no particular expectations. I was looking forward to a laid back chick lit kind of read though.
The main character Katie Kendall is an author who has just found out her bestselling book is going to be made into a movie. We find out immediately that her writing has put a huge strain on her marriage; she comes home one day to find divorce papers. I did find the beginning up to here a bit rushed but I did still want to keep reading to see where her new life and movie deal took her.
Katie meets lots of new people from here on in and her life changes in a way that she would never have imagined; especially when she meets the leading man in the movie – Jesse. The attraction between them is obvious from the start, and I found myself rooting for them as Jesse was such a sweetheart. The story had a good pace to it and I liked Jen’s laid back humorous writing style. There were plenty of laugh out loud moments along with a good amount of seriousness for good measure.
Aside from the rushed beginning I thoroughly enjoyed this story and the characters.
My rating – 4.5/5
