Hands up who doesn’t like saving money on their weekly, or monthly shopping bill? Nope, I can’t see a very big show of hands… I’m always on the lookout for a bargain and when I haven’t got the kids with me, I spend more time than I should browsing the shops looking for offers and great deals. I can always be spotted on the reduced shelves in the supermarket too! I do love a good browse online as well, but there aren’t many online only shops where you can save good amounts on your grocery bill. That’s where Approved Food come in.

Thousands of savvy shoppers and bargain hunters regularly save more than 70% off their weekly grocery shopping with us. We specialise in surplus and short-dated stock, food that is either near or just passed its ‘best before’ date – allowing us to pass on huge savings to our customers.

‘Best before’ dates appear on a wide range foods and acts as the manufacturers estimate of when the premium quality of its product may start to deteriorate, losing some of its flavour and texture, but it isn’t when food should be discarded. We never sell anything with a ‘use by’ date.

I was asked by the people at Approved Food to choose a selection of products and go through the order process. There are so many types of product and brands on the site that I found it quite easy to stick within my budget (even when money-saving, we have to have a budget, right?).

My thoughts

The first items I went for were the usual bits I have to pick up when grocery shopping – biscuits, crisps and soft drinks! There were so many choices it was actually hard deciding what to get. There was a good mix of premium brands, more budget brands, and supermarket brands. I managed to fill my shopping basket within my budget, all with products that we have actually used; though I could have spent so much more. The total RRP of my basket was £57.30 and I spent £27.40 on goods, so I made a huge saving of £29.90!

I don’t think many of the products we received were actually past their best before date either; not that it bothers me when they are, as I do regularly use items past a BB date. Approved Food is just a great way to get these items even cheaper! The parcel of items arrived well packaged; there were no squashed boxes, broken biscuits, or crushed up crisps. I could tell that care was taken when getting orders ready for customers.

I also received an email through every step of the picking, packing and posting process; this was great as I had a good idea when my items would be arriving. Approved Food have so many great offers on top of their great prices too; from regular 1p deals, surprise boxes and shopping basket specials, to free delivery on orders over a certain cost.

Our rating – 4.5/5
