It seems like ages since I last welcomed a Degustabox into my house. I think it’s because the Christmas one arrived a bit earlier than usual and this one a little later; not that I’m complaining, I always love the arrival of a new Degustabox!
January’s box included quite a few brands I had never heard of, with some I will certainly buy again. I did enjoy everything in it though.
So what was inside the January Degustabox?
Quinola Mothergrain Express Quinoa
I’ve been meaning to try quinoa for a while actually so this was one of the first products I tried from this box. Being an express microwave version it was really handy for coming in late from weigh in and putting in the microwave to eat with a main dish I had already made. I’m not sure what I was expecting, but the texture felt like a cross between cous cous and rice. It also had split peas in for a bit of extra taste and goodness, and it was really filling.
Aspire Drinks (Mango & lemonade, Cranberry)
I have tried Aspire Drinks before, but different flavours to these. I can’t really comment on the weight management aspect as I am already following a weight management plan, but they do taste good. The mango & lemonade one was my favourite of these two. I love that it’s calorie free and sugar free too, so it doesn’t feel naughty.
Finn Crisp (Seeds & Sea Salt)
I don’t mind plain crispbreads but I usually like a topping on them. These ones are bite size though so perfect for dipping, and the seeds & sea salt on them give them a bit more flavour too. I couldn’t eat too many on their own though; I personally think they definitely need a dip of some sort.
Natvia
I’ve used sweetener for a long time now so I’ve heard of Nativa, but never gotten around to using it. I do know it is one of the better for you sweeteners as it’s 100% natural with no artificial nasties. I did notice that this granulated one isn’t a really fine powder type like some you can get, but it’s bigger granules, more like sugar. I’ve only used it in my coffee but it tastes just like sugar too.
Protein Boost (Strawberry)
I gave this to The Husband as he likes trying new protein drinks, and we’d never heard of this before. It’s a good size bottle with 20g of protein in it, and it actually tastes pretty much like strawberry milkshake!
The Collective Yoghurt (Russian Fudge)
I have noticed this yoghurt on the shelves before, and I know a lot of Slimming World followers love it as a treat. This was the first time I have tried it though. I received a voucher for this in the Degustabox, but when I went to buy some they only had Russian Fudge flavour so that’s what I bought. It comes in a pretty big tub with layers of fudge ‘sauce’; the fruit flavours have fruit compote layers. The yogurt itself is really creamy and tastes divine; the fudge layer is really an added bonus as I could easily eat the yoghurt on its own! I will be trying the other flavours of this in the future.
Fruitella 30% Less Sugar
It’s ages since I’ve had these, so seeing a packet of them in the Degustabox put a huge smile on my face! They now contain 30% less sugar so they’re even better for you. They taste even better than I remember, with a really creamy fruity taste.
Yushoi (Coconut & Chilli)
I’ve had this brand in a previous Degustabox but the pack was a different flavour – Lightly Salted. I wasn’t so keen on that flavour and I did say that The Husband seemed to like them more than I did. So I was a bit dubious about trying these too, even though coconut & chilli are two of my favourite flavours. I was pleasantly surprised with these though; I couldn’t really taste pea at all and they were actually very moreish!
Crabbie’s Alcoholic Ginger Beer (Scottish Raspberry)
I’m not usually keen on ginger beer so I wasn’t sure if I would like this. It was lovely actually; the most prominent flavour was of the raspberry, with only a tiny hint of ginger. It could certainly be a hit during the summer months.
Popchips (Smoky Bacon)
I’ve had Popchips before but not the ridged ones, though I have seen them advertised. So I expected these to be delicious; and they were. Absolutely bursting with flavour, and again, so very moreish. I could have easily eaten the whole bag to myself (oops!).
The Chia Co Chia Shots
After receiving chia seeds in a previous Degustabox and trying them for the first time, I’ve come to love them. They’re a great addition to my breakfast and are really quite filling. This brand is no different. I love that these come in individual little sachets. Though I split them scattered over breakfasts of porridge or fruit & yogurt, a full one would be great to put in a smoothie, or a smoothie bowl.
Chosan By Nature Hibiscus Drink with Fiery Ginger
I’ve never heard of this brand and I’m not really keen on drinks with ginger in them, so admittedly this was one of those where I tried just a little sip first. Surprisingly for me though, it was really refreshing. It tasted quite botanical, with just a little undertone of ginger.
Pip’s Real Hot Chocolate Co. (Classic)
I do love a hot chocolate but I usually have low calorie brands, so it was nice to have a bit of luxury hot chocolate. I love that these are just really giant chocolate coins, that you melt in a pan of milk (plus cream if you wish!). It didn’t didn’t take long at all to make, and this classic one was really luxurious. Looking at the website, they come in many different flavours too which I’m going to try.
We Are Little’s Coffee (Coconut)
I always love receiving coffee through the post! I’ve never heard of this brand, though I have had coconut flavour coffee before. I have to say that this one is preferable to me; it’s not an overly strong, bitter taste of coconut, but I can definitely tell that’s what it’s supposed to be.
