Foodie Penpals – July reveal

This month my foodie penpals parcel came from Kevin over at The Crafty Larder (you really should check his blog out as there are some fantabulous recipes on there – seriously, go on, do it). I think this parcel was one of my favourite ones yet. Though I have said it before this parcel was very ‘me’ and a lot of thought was put into it. First up, a few savoury bits: Vietnamese dipping sauce. I haven’t had Vietnamese yet but I’m looking forward to trying this with spring rolls (or some other kind of appetiser) Thai chilli rice crackers. These were …

One year (and strange goings on)

One year ago today my mother-in-law passed away after a battle with cancer. I don’t think I need to write how heartbroken we all were (and still are, in fact). Little man J was only 16 months old at the time so he didn’t really know what was going on but we try not to let him forget her. Something strange happened in the early hours of yesterday morning. We were all in bed sleeping, and as usual around 2 am, I heard that J had climbed out of bed and was stood at his gate shouting for me. Usually …

#RealMumsAllBran love your tummy challenge

It surprised me to discover that 90-95% of the happy hormone serotonin is made in the gut – did you know that? Which is obviously why bloating due to not eating enough fibre can make us miserable! I was recently invited by BritMums to take part in their #RealMumsAllBran 5-Day Challenge – to see if eating All-Bran for 5 consecutive days made any improvement to my general digestive well-being and the way I felt. The challenge also encompasses learning to love the way our tummies look as well as how they feel. Over recent years, I’ve fallen out with my …

Little man J at 2 years 4 months old

It seems that I wrote J’s last update forever ago – maybe because I’ve only been doing it 2 monthly, and N’s updates monthly. Since then, he has developed a lot – he is learning so much. His independence is growing more & more. He now asks to wash his hands when playing outside and before he eats. He asks to brush his teeth – he used to hate it – though sometimes he does suck the toothpaste off rather than brushing! He is still a great big brother and becoming closer to N every day. He has started showing …

Meal Planning Monday – 28th July

We had a good week last week and stuck to the meal plan! I’ve noticed every week is looking quite similar at the minute, so from next week I’m going to be getting my cookbooks out and being a bit more adventurous. They are a bit ‘samey’ at the minute as little man is currently going through a fussy toddler phase, so if he doesn’t eat what we give him it’s either nothing, or toast! Meal plan for w/c 28th July: Monday – Vegetable stir fry (I ordered a stir fry box for our fruit & veg delivery last week so …
