A to Z of Family – G is for Grandparents

Grandparents are one of the fundamental parts of a family unit. Sometimes they keep everything together. The little ones can twist them around their little finger. They are also great at babysitting (!). J & N are lucky and have 3 sets of grandparents. Hubby’s Mum & Dad. My Mum & Step-Dad. My Dad & his partner. I know some children aren’t so lucky though, but others have 4 sets. Unfortunately hubby’s Mum passed away last year, just after we found out we were expecting N. She passed away a couple of days after we had our early scan at …

A to Z of Family – F is for Father

I know that my boys most likely will never call their Daddy ‘Father’ but it does still fit with the theme, and I used a different one for the week of D so I thought I’d use it for this week as it is of course an important part of family. I know that my husband doesn’t think he is the best father sometimes – heck, I never think I’m the best Mummy either! – but to me, he is. He tries his best. J is very demanding, boisterous, temperamental lately and hubby doesn’t have as much patience with him as …

A to Z of Family – E is for Energy

Within our household we seem to have two types of energy. Zero energy (Mummy & Daddy). And buckets of energy (toddler). Baby N is somewhere in between, he seems to have lots when he wakes up and it slowly dwindles. Unlike N & J, Daddy & I wake up with zero energy, even after a full nights sleep. Daddy works 8 hours a day and then comes home and helps look after the boys. I look after the boys all day, try to fit in housework & chores where I can, then do even more when Daddy gets home. We’re …

A to Z of Family – D is for Decisions

As parents, we all have an awful lot of decisions to make. Some are easy, some are hard. Some take a lot of thought, some we might do on a whim. Of course the biggest decision we will ever make is whether to start a family, then you have to think about when. When is the right time? Is there ever a right time? For us, we decided to wait until after we married. We were married in the July but because I am OCD about things, we I decided to wait until the New Year so it was a fresh …

A to Z of Family – C is for Co-sleeping

Co-sleeping is something which we have done a lot of over the past 2 (and a bit) years. Before J arrived I had never really thought about it – I’d seen it mentioned – but it was not really something that I had decided I would do beforehand. After all, we had his Moses basket and his cot ready, and he would be sleeping in there when we brought him home from hospital. As it goes, I started co-sleeping pretty much straight away without even thinking about it. It started in the hospital – accidentally! Our first night in I …
