If you took part in any of my blogaversary giveaways then you may have entered the Betty Crocker one. I have recently been lucky enough to receive some yummy mixes from Betty Crocker to review myself. I love baking and creating recipes, but sometimes when I am baking just for family visiting or something, then I might not have time so a bought mix is just as good – I still have to bake it so I’ve kind of made it! I had never tried the mixes I received but even when the package arrived I was already drooling and wanted to bake them all at once! On a Sunday we alternate with my brother/father-in-law to host tea, and with my love of baking I always provide a dessert so I took the opportunity to test these on everyone.
The goodies I received were:
- Chocolate Fudge brownie mix
- Devil’s Food cake mix
- Chocolate Fudge icing
- Red Velvet cake mix
- Cream Cheese style icing
First up I made the chocolate fudge brownies. As soon as I opened the packet it smelled amazing, and to be honest, I could have eaten the brownie mix raw.
The brownies turned out really crispy on top and immensely fudgey underneath, just as I would have expected. They did come out a little thin for my liking (but maybe I used a larger tin), though to be honest they were so deliciously sickly anyway that you don’t need much to enjoy it, and three served with ice cream was more than enough for me!
The next mix I tried was the red velvet cake, together with the cream cheese style icing. I’ve never made a red velvet cake myself before – it’s been on my to-do list to get the correct colour paste – so if you’re the same as me this is a delicious substitute. The cake itself came out so soft & moist and the cream cheese style icing was the perfect accompaniment. The colour when baked was pretty much the same as the pre-baked mixture too. The cream cheese style icing was yummy, but I did find it a little sickly.
Last but not least it was the turn of the devil’s food cake. I was so looking forward to this one. Everyone loves a chocolaty fudge cake, don’t they?! Like the red velvet cake, this one came out lovely and soft & moist too, such a gorgeous chocolate colour, and the chocolate fudge icing was just perfect for it – if not also a little sickly but I could have eaten the whole tub on its own, it tasted that good! J managed to eat even more than me, but I do have a low ‘sweet’ tolerance level. I think this combination was my favourite.
There is just enough icing in the tubs to fill and cover the cakes, and they are ready to spread so no mixing to do there. The cakes serve 12 (at least!) so there is plenty to go around. We’re going on a staycation soon and I think I might have to purchase some of the Betty Crocker range to take with us as they are just so delicious.
Betty Crocker is available to buy in most major supermarkets and the products featured in this review retail for around £2.25 RRP each.
My rating – 5/5

I buy the tubs of frosting and icing all the time but haven't used the cake mixes before – they look fab! x
We will definitely be buying them ourselves!
Every time I use these mixes I end up with perfect, delicious cakes…..
Yours look amazing!! 😀
Thank you! 😀 I definitely recommend them to anyone!
I must admit I use the tubs of frosting regularly when I make cakes with the kids – so much easier than making my own and SO tasty too.
Thanks for linking up with #TriedTested this week x
They are, I had the cream cheese style one on a carrot cake the other night, so yummy!
I love the look of these. The red velvet cake looks so good though that I think I'd have to lie and say I made it myself. I am a bad person. Great post.x
Haha, it does look good doesn't it?!
