Rediscovering Favourite Hobbies in 2025

Ever since I had COVID-19 in 2022 I’ve been suffering from longer-term health issues – “Long Covid” perhaps. The main one is fatigue, which began pre-Covid but has worsened over the last year or so. It may just be chronic fatigue syndrome but my GP isn’t being very helpful. Nowadays I can barely manage a day without a nap. It’s affected not only my health but my favourite hobbies.

I used to have a few hobbies which I loved but I only managed to maintain one of them last year: reading. In 2025 I aim to restart some of them and hopefully keep up with at least one (I’m not aiming too high otherwise I set myself up for failure!) I think they will also help with my mental health and giving my brain something else to concentrate on!

Reading

Reading is one of the hobbies I don’t think I could be without. I love to lose myself in a book, in a different world. To imagine the setting, the characters, the emotions inside the pages (or in my ears if I’m listening to an audiobook!)

Last year I managed to read and listen to 81 books in total. Alongside this, I saved £1 for every book I read so I have a nice pot for new ones this year! I hope to keep up with the saving this year too. I am having a slow start to the year however, and I’ve only completed two books so far.

Since New Year I’ve also been unwell and only just starting to feel better so I’m trying not to give myself too much of a hard time.

Crafting

Doing crafts is a hobby I used to do often with the boys but when they lost interest, I did too. I do however make the occasional box frame for friends and family for big birthdays or celebrations. I’ve also made a couple of wreaths for my front door.

My lovely husband bought me a Cricut Joy Machine for Christmas so this is one hobby I want to pick back up! I already have so many ideas for vinyl crafts and I want try making my own stickers as I’m a bit of a sticker and stationery lover!

Colouring

I have a pile of colouring books that are sat waiting for me to fill them with creativity. Before the boys became pre-teens (!) and found an interest in gaming, we all used to sit and colour a few evenings a week. I haven’t done any colouring other than on my phone for over a year now.

I won a library-themed colouring book and a set of markers in a Christmas giveaway in December so I plan to start my 2025 colouring with this one. I’ve been getting inspiration from a large colouring group on Facebook so I am eager to get going with this hobby!

Baking

In the past, baking is a hobby that I’ve done every week. In 2024 I barely touched my Kitchenaid so this is something I want to rectify. You can’t beat a homemade cake or cookies; though some days I just don’t have the energy to stand and do it.

One of the reasons I want to take up this hobby again is because J is almost definitely lactose intolerant, and dairy free sweet treats are expensive! Pretty much anything is possible to make dairy free so I’d like to experiment with my many recipe books that are gathering dust!

Are there any hobbies you would like to take up in 2025?

Stacey

I’m Stacey, a bookworm (or should that be dragon?!) from a quaint hamlet on the outskirts of Lincolnshire. In my late 30s, I’m a devoted mum to two wonderful boys who are both autistic—a unique aspect that makes them different, not less. I also share my home with my husband and Barney, my lovable Frenchie x Beagle.
