Slimming World weigh in number two

If you read about my first week with Slimming World then you’ll know that I had a fairly good loss of 3.5lbs which I was over the moon with. This week I was hoping to lose another 3.5lbs in order to get my half stone award. I think after a good loss in my first week I was a little more relaxed and not so strict, and I think it impacted me a bit so I’m right back to strict now. The thing I am worst with is picking at the kids food – so crumbs, leftovers, stealing a morsel from their plate before I give them it… But every little thing counts, doesn’t it?!

This week at group was taster week and there was some yummy food brought in. Someone made some bhaji like things, I think they were made from packet mash and rice – they were really nice and a great alternative! I made some chocolate jelly sweets and some ‘fizzy’ grapes, both 2 syns for the whole lot; they went down well too. We also found out about the new Slimming World meals coming out next month – I’m going to be stocking up on syn free sausages!

So, prior to my weigh in I was a little nervous as I’m always paranoid that I’ve gained, so any loss will please me really – though some more than others obviously! I stepped on the scales and I had lost… 1.5lbs! So not quite the 3.5lbs I was hoping for but I will make it next week as I really want that shiny! (PMA and all that…).

Baked plaice with tomato & basil | Recipe (Slimming World friendly)

Since I’ve seen all of the types of fish I can eat on Slimming World without counting the calories, I’ve decided to become a little more experimental with it! In our house we have ‘Fish Friday’ and it usually consists of scampi, cod/haddock, or mackerel. I’ve always loved the reduced shelf in the supermarket and now I’ve started raiding the fish section every week to see what I can find for the following week. One of my recent finds was plaice fillets, to which I added just a couple of simple ingredients which brought the flavour out just a little bit more. And it’s completely Slimming World friendly too!

Ingredients (serves 2)

  • 2 fillets of plaice (de-boned)
  • lemon juice
  • sea salt
  • 3 baby tomatoes, halved
  • basil leaves
Method
  • Preheat oven to gas 5/375F/190C.
  • Place the fillets onto a baking tray.
  • Squeeze a little lemon juice and sprinkle a little salt onto each fillet.
  • Place 4 tomato halves onto each fillet.
  • Carefully tear the basil leaves and arrange on the fillets.
  • Cover the tray loosely with foil, then bake for around 20 minutes.
  • Serve immediately with other vegetables, and enjoy!

 

Slimming World – my first week and weigh in

As you might have read, I joined Slimming World last week. I was excited yet a little bit nervous as I’ve always weighed in the privacy of my own home before and had a quick hop on the scales during the week! I’m determined not to do that though as obviously our scales will be different. Also I’ve never really been on a plan before, just did my own thing with calorie counting.
When I started looking through my pack, I must admit I found it a little bit overwhelming and didn’t know where to start! I decided on writing a meal plan first whilst looking through my book to get used to it. With flicking back & forth it took me around two hours! Though I was surprised to see how much I could actually eat without ‘counting’ it.
I decided that it was too much of a pain in the bum to have to keep going back and checking my book so I did this:
I have three chalk ‘boards’ with the menu, to record my daily syns, and the syns of my favourite foods that aren’t free. Then I photocopied pages from my book – free foods, and Healthy Extra A & B choices. It’s been so much easier to keep on track and get those speed foods by just having a quick glance.
The week went really well. I stuck to plan pretty much 100% and although I did miss crisps and bread, I didn’t find it overly hard not to eat them. I’m so proud I managed to resist as these are usually my downfall (crisps for lunch or snack, and a sandwich for lunch and toast at night). I’ve really enjoyed trying new meals already and adapting old meals, and I’ve actually really enjoyed all the fruit I’ve been eating – I forgot how much I’d missed it all!
So, Tuesday was my first weigh in. I had to go by myself as my ‘buddy’ couldn’t make it. There weren’t many people there though but as I had ‘met’ them last week I felt more at ease. I would have been happy with a 2lb loss, even though I know lots of people get big losses their first week but as I have PCOS it’s a bit harder for me. I certainly felt better in myself though, and a lot less bloated. I stepped on the scales, and I had lost… 3.5lbs! Absolutely over the moon with that and it has made me even more determined to go for the same again next week to get my half stone award.
Oh, and I also won the raffle – I’d been wanting one of these so I was over the moon with that too!

Pizza topped chicken | Recipe (Slimming World friendly)

Since I joined Slimming World last week I’ve been trying out a few new recipes and I hope it means I won’t get stuck in a food rut like I usually do when trying to lose weight! This recipe is a great alternative to a dough based pizza, and it’s all free on SW (30g cheese is a Healthy Extra)! It’s also great for the kids though and is fairly quick to prepare. It’s a nice change and really does taste yummy with lovely golden cheese.

Ingredients (serves 4)

  • 4 chicken breasts
  • 250g passata
  • 120g cheddar cheese
  • basil (I used dried but you can use fresh if desired)
Method
  • Preheat oven to gas 5/375F/190C.
  • Place the chicken breasts between two sheets of cling film and bash with a rolling pin to flatten them.
  • Place on a baking tray and divide the passata between them, coating the whole top of the breasts.
  • Sprinkle basil on then top with cheese.
  • Bake for 25-30 minutes, until cheese is golden & bubbling.
  • Enjoy!

 

 

My Slimming World journey begins

Earlier in the week I wrote about hoping to join a Slimming World group but my anxiety was holding me back – I only went and did it! I was really anxious in the days leading up to going but I eventually found myself a real life partner instead of just online support.

When it came to going, I was more nervous about walking there and being mugged or kidnapped or something on the way! (I don’t live in the greatest neighbourhood). There’s the anxiety again for you. Anyway, once I arrived at the location it is held at, I started to feel quite sick and shaky so I had a sit down, did some breathing and composed myself before I went in. My partner was already sat waiting for me (sorry B!) and then we had the new member chat and went through everything. The consultant is really lovely too.

It was then time to go around the group with losses and tips etc., and although I’m glad I didn’t have to talk in front of everyone this week, I think I might just be okay next week for my first weigh in session. I will just let the consultant know that I may not say much.

I’ve had a look through the books and I’m also a member of a couple of small groups on Facebook so I can get tips & ideas from there, and Instagram is a great source too! I think my greatest difficulty will be staying away from too much bread & crisps but I know I can syn these if I get really desperate! I’ve planned my meals for this week and so far it’s going well – I’m nervous yet excited for my first weigh in!

As I did on my previous weight loss journey, I don’t mind sharing my weight each week with an update. After being up & down for five years with my weight loss, I’ve learned to not be ashamed as it might just inspire someone else. Once upon a time I was a ‘thinspiration’ – I wonder if that will ever happen again!
