Why More Thought Should Go Into Your Choice Of Bed

When you’re trying to create a calming and relaxing bedroom, perfectly suited to help you get off to sleep, the one aspect that you can’t forget to consider is that of the bed, itself. When it comes to choosing your bed, how much thought do you really put into it? Do you simply choose the first one that looks like it fits your style, or should something else go into your decision?

Here, we’re going to look at some of the factors that should be coming into mind when you’re selecting your bed and why it’s worth thinking about a little more.

Make sure you lie on it, rather than looking at it

It’s important to make sure that you try what you buy. Of course, you might not always buy the same mattress and bed combo, so it won’t be a one-to-one experience. However, if you try it out and you find that the bed is too short for you to comfortably move around or that the mattress is too soft and springy, then you at least have a direction on what to change to get to the bed that will actually suit your needs.

What size of bed do you want?

There are a lot of different bed sizes to consider, and you need to make sure that you’re getting the right one for you. A decent-sized bed should offer enough room for anyone who spends time in it, whether it’s for just you alone, you and a partner, or if the whole family likes to snuggle and nap together. You also need to consider the space that the bed takes in the bedroom itself. You don’t want it to be so large that you have little room to maneuver around it.

Does it suit your individual style?

The aesthetic of your bed might not exactly be the most important factor when it comes to choosing one that you want. However, making sure that it fits your bedroom’s style and your own visual tastes is important. Do you want a bed that has a wooden finish? Would you rather it be upholstered with something like faux leather? Perhaps you even want a metallic design, be it contemporary and clean or with some old-fashioned furnishings. Whatever your sense of taste is, there are beds out there that can suit your preferences.

Convenience and ease of setup

This might not be an important factor for everyone but some people are not going to want to spend a day putting up their bed. In some cases, you might be able to have your bed assembled directly by the store that delivers it. Otherwise, you have to think about what you’re willing to do, as some beds can require putting up and drilling together flat-packed storage furniture. Others are a little simpler and come with the lifting mechanisms all in place. Usually, you will have to attach the headboard, but that might require nothing more complex than a screwdriver.

Do you want extra storage space?

There are a couple of ways that a bed can offer storage space for your room. The first is by being tall enough off the floor that you can easily slip something like a wicker basket under it. However, there are some beds like a small double ottoman bed that is designed to offer more space by making it accessible thanks to increased space beneath the mattress and the ability to raise the mattress easily. Other beds are also built with things like drawers that slide out of them to offer additional storage space, allowing you to reduce the clutter in the bedroom easily.

Don’t forget the mattress, too

We’ve largely been covering the bed itself, but you should also think about which mattress you add to it. The mattress type that best suits you typically depends on how you distribute your weight when you are lying on the bed. If you lie on your back, for instance, then you might want a firmer mattress that can keep your back supported. If you lie on your side, however, then a bed that is a little softer can let you sink into the bed to the point that all your points of contact are relatively level.

The bed is, by far, the most important piece of furniture in the home. It can single-handedly affect your quality of life way more than any of the rest. Take the time to think about your choice of bed, as well as your mattress and bedding, to ensure you pick the right one for you.
