Not everybody likes to spend their vacations spread out on a beach or by the hotel pool. If that sounds a lot like you, don’t worry – there are plenty of other vacation ideas out there for you. Here are some tips on where you could go for your next holiday…

Try Interrailing

Why not try interrailing? It’s a European rite of passage, but people from all over the world can buy a train ticket that gives you access to thirty-one countries throughout Europe. Take a backpack and make a vague itinerary of the places that you want to go and the things that you want to see. Although you don’t need to decide where you’re going to be each day and where you’re going to stay each night, it’s a good idea to make a checklist of everywhere that you want to visit so that you don’t miss anything out. Interrailing and backpacking is the perfect way to get to know a lot of different countries and to see some of the most beautiful sights and buildings in the world. If you decide to stay in youth hostels, chances are you’ll make friends with the other backpackers too!

A Biking Trip

If you’re an active person, why not try a biking trip? One of the best things about bike trips is that you can cover more land than you would if you were hiking but you’re still able to travel slowly enough to see a lot of incredible sights and a lot of nature’s most beautiful places. If you feel like spending some time in your own head for a while, you could cycle the road to Santiago de Compostela, a pilgrimage route frequented by thousands of people every year. If that doesn’t sound like your idea of a good time, you could stay a little closer to home and take on an incredible UK challenge. You may not know this but Lands End to John O’Groats can be cycled! You’ll be able to explore the length of the country on your bike. Just make sure you have a comfortable saddle…

Take A Road Trip

If you want to see the world, there are few better ways to do it than through a road trip. There are so many options – you could rent a car and drive through France, taking in vineyards and incredible food, beautiful beaches and amazing art on the way. You could alternatively drive across America, following Kerouac and living the American Dream. One great route is to drive down the East Coast. A lot of the best cities in the US are there, from New York City to Boston to Washington DC, along with some gorgeous places like Charleston and Miami as you get further down south. Stay in motels, go to diners, and live the Beatnik experience. You could also take a Route 66 inspired trip from Chicago, Illinois, all the way to Santa Monica in California. It’s a once in a lifetime trip that all the coolest kids dream of taking.

Not all holidays have to be all-inclusive and spent by the pool! These trips would be incredible for anyone with the heart and soul of an adventurer…
