Let’s be honest; it’s getting pretty cold outside. Freezing has even been snowing in places! So, if you are thinking about making a hairstyle change before the year is out, a buzz cut or supercharged short crop may not have been the first pin on the Pinterest board you’re planning to show your hairdresser.
Firstly, rest assured that there’s some evidence to show we don’t lose most of our heat through our heads. And, of course, if you tend to feel the cold, braving a crop is a great way to ensure you appreciate the winter woollies, you’ll be unwrapping in just a few short weeks when Christmas comes around.
Finally, after reading this persuasive argument, you may decide to put a head shave on your to-do list for 2017. If you find your curiosity piqued and your scalp tingling in anticipation when you reach the end of this post, ensure you get the right kit for the job to assist should you decide to DIY. While a simple razor will do the job, hair clippers or an electric razor should make things go more ‘smoothly’ for you. Here are some tips for choosing a men’s electric shaver that’s up to the job.
Saved time
How much time do you spend on your hair every day? Even if you’re a brush-it and tie-it-up kind of girl like me, you’ll need to add time for regular washing. Then there are special events to consider; how long do you tend to your tresses for a party? According to a 2012 survey, we spend ten days every year brushing, washing and styling our hair. Now, if you enjoy this time (some of you may even find it relaxing), it may seem well spent. But what else could you do with those moments if you snatched them back from looking after your locks?
Saved money
Grooming a mane is expensive. If you’re brave enough to trim the ends yourself and flout the much-touted recommendation that you should visit the hairdresser roughly every six weeks, you’ll save a great deal. But there are further costs to consider. Shampoo, conditioner, hair spray, dry shampoo for days when you want to stay under the duvet a little longer. Hair products cost pounds and pence, there’s no denying it. And, without hair, you could reduce these costs to zero and ‘shave’ some extra time off your morning routine, too. The latter will allow you precious extra time in bed or free up scheduling for exercise or relaxation.
If you visit the hairdresser regularly and would rather have people fetch you glasses of wine or cups of coffee with biccies and browse magazines while you have your hair done, consider recreating the experience at home with the help of some enthusiastic friends or housemates. Hint: Offer to supply the biscuits yourself.
Saved heart
If you’ve been thinking about taking the plunge for a while or are now picturing yourself without your curls, why not have the chop for charity? Shaving your head for charity is a great way of raising money and awareness for different organisations. If you currently have longish locks, you could give your hair to the Little Princess Trust, who make real hair wigs for ill children. You’d be in good company if you chose to do so, too, as Harry Styles handed over his ponytail after his dramatic hairstyle change.
Don’t know whether you could pull off having it all off? There are lots of fabulous female celebs who have proven that a more severe snip can look sensational. Natalie Portman, Charlize Theron, Rihanna, Demi Moore and Cate Blanchett have all pulled off a super short shave at one time or another. And, while she didn’t go the full hog and reach for the razor, Emma Watson described chopping off her long hair as “the most liberating thing ever.” After appearing in the Harry Potter movies for ten years, she tried a different look. Ms Watson did so to distance her appearance from that of her character, Hermione.
Is it time to rethink your style, starting at the top? Have you or would you ever shave your hair, or are you far too attached to those tresses? If you did shave it off, what would you do with all the money saved on products and salon visits?

I had my rockstar long hair chopped off a couple of years ago for a charity event for children with the big C. Never regretted it and I’m looking forward to doing it again!
Oh that’s brilliant! I’ve not had it completely chopped off but I have had a crop with one side shaved! That was last year and now my hair is past my shoulders, it grows fairly quick!
Most people use electric shavers for the beard only, I am pretty sure they can great for finishing only when you have not much hair.
Remembering the days when I was twelve and my dad left the clippers in the bathroom. I don’t know what was I thinking and just like that, I started cutting my hair with the clippers. My dad caught me and instead of him getting mad at me, we both laughed and he decided to shave my head all the way. LOL…
I totally agree to this! That is why I always shave my head. Great article!
Nice tips! I will tell my husband about that because he always buy low quality product. Thank for sharing!
During summer you have to wear a hat / sun screen so that you don’t expose that bald head to direct sun light. Thanks for sharing …(Bald Head look good on men with thick beards……that is what I think)
I shave my head regularly. I don’t like the stubble because it doesn’t look clean cut. Get an affordable electric shaver that’ll do the job. Especially in the summer, I love looking spiffy 🙂
Excellent. Absolutely loved reading and very helpful at the same time 🙂
I remember getting bald in childhood is one of the most ridiculous things I believe! but It did have some benefits from time to time pulling the hairs off completely help you to grow new fresh hairs from the bottom and also what better way to get bald than that in a charity event!
