You may remember I recently reviewed the Stone Earth Pan by Ozeri and fell in love with it. I was recently invited to review the Ozeri Elite Chef Black Ceramic 3-Piece Knife Set and obviously couldn’t refuse!

Because I do a lot of cooking from scratch with fresh ingredients, I use my knifes an awful lot. I already owned an inexpensive plastic handled serrated set, and another mid range set – what you would call ‘proper’ knifes with the metal going through the handle – but I had never heard of ceramic knives before I came across these. After reading the description I couldn’t wait to (literally) get my hands on them.

The ceramic knife set:

  • slices through fruits, vegetables, and boneless meats with ease
  • possesses ergonomic handles making chopping, mincing & dicing easier than ever
  • has blades which are close in hardness to diamonds due to utilising the purest ceramic, so preserves it’s razor sharpness 10x as long as steel blades
  • doesn’t corrode, rust, or leach metal ions from exposure to moisture, oils, and acids in foods
  • weighs less than half of an equivalent metal knife reducing fatigue & pain from cutting & preparing ingredients.
When the knives arrived, I noticed just how professional they looked. Everything is black – the box, the knives, the foam in which they are enclosed. They are each set in their own little section with a foam insert to put over the blades to protect them. The knives included within the set are a 3″ paring knife, a 5″ slicing knife, and a 6″ chef’s knife (all 100% ceramic).
I first had to test out how they were to hold. They certainly are very ergonomic and fit in your hand with ease, as if moulded to your hand and fingers; where with other knives you basically just hold them as normal which can get uncomfortable if you are chopping difficult things or for a long time. They are also much lighter compared to my other knives.
Some of the items we have sliced or chopped with these knives are onions, garlic, peppers, potatoes, chicken, duck, carrots, cucumber, pineapple & melon. Every single one of these items, I was able to slice with complete ease. The knives just glided through with me putting barely any effort into it – sometimes with my other knives I kind of have to ‘saw’ through some tougher items – these ones are certainly very sharp.
After around 4 weeks I still haven’t had to sharpen them (though the booklet included does suggest taking them to be professionally sharpened when needed) whereas with my other knives I have to sharpen them with a steel every couple of weeks to get the best result. The ‘finish’ on the chopped items is very neat, no raggedness.
Even after obviously washing them numerous times, they still look as good as new. I have been washing them with a sponge rather than a scourer so as not to risk damaging them.
The only thing I can fault – and it’s not even a real fault, just me being picky – is that if they accidentally scrape the chopping board, they make that horrible sound which reminds me of fingernails down a chalkboard! (Like I said, nothing to really complain about!).

The knife set is currently retailing on Amazon for £49.99. I will admit, if I had seen these of my own accord I probably wouldn’t have purchased them as I would have thought they were quite expensive just for knives. But after using them, and considering they are 100% ceramic, I would say that they are definitely worth the cost as they will more than likely last for quite a few years.
These knives have taken the top spot to become my new favourite knives, and I’m sure I will be using them for a long time to come.

My rating – 5/5
