Whether you’re searching for Christmas gifts for someone hard to buy for, you’re a last minute gift buyer, or you’re looking for a gift that lasts longer than the Christmas festivities; a food subscription gift may be the choice for you. I’m a bit of a subscription box lover – especially food related ones! – and there are so many more I would love to try. But, you know, pennies.
Anyone who bought me a food subscription as a gift though, I would love forever. Doesn’t everyone love food that they haven’t had to buy themselves? 😉 I’ve put together a guide for you, so hopefully you will find something that your intended recipient will be thankful for!
For the sweetie lover
Mr Big Tops – from £4.99 (for a once weekly subscription)
Mr Big Tops is a sweets by post service where you can subscribe to receive a box either once a week, twice a week, once a fortnight, or once a month. Each box contains 6 small bags of sweets, from a huge variety that you can choose yourself. As well as subscription boxes, Mr Big Tops also sell products such as sweet jars and one off themed boxes. We’ve had a couple of these now and love them.
For the chocolate lover
Hotel Chocolat, Tasting Club – from £60 (for a 3 month subscription)
The Hotel Chocolat tasting club is a food subscription that I would really love to receive as a gift. I’m a huge Hotel Chocolat fan and I am lucky enough to receive a box at Christmas, but y’know, every month would be even lovelier. Your recipient can choose to receive a box of their favourite selection delivered every 4 weeks. The difference between a tasting club box and a regular box, is that the chocolates provided to tasting club members are exclusive to them. So this is really an extra special subscription!
For the cheese lover
The Welsh Cheese Company, Clwb Caws* – from £63 (for a 3 month subscription)
One of my favourite foods to munch on is cheese. Cheese, crackers, chutney, and deli meats; you can’t beat it. So a cheese subscription box would be right up my street. Each month your recipient will receive four handpicked Welsh cheeses, weighing around 400g in total. I was lucky enough to be sent a monthly box from The Welsh Cheese Company‘s Clwb Caws. The cheeses I received were “Cumin seed”, “Smoked caerffili””, Aberwen”, and “Ruby Mist” (a cheddar with port & brandy). They were all very different flavours, but all absolutely delicious so I don’t think your recipient would be disappointed.
For the casual cook
Simply Cook – from £29 (for a 3 month subscription)
Unlike other meal subscription services (as wonderful as they are!), Simply Cook just send you the stocks, spices, rubs, and pastes you need to create your meal. There is no time limit on when you need to use them by, as you add your own fresh ingredients. Each box contains four kits, with enough in each kit to cook a meal for 2-4 people. Each kit also comes with a handy recipe card, and gives ingredient substitution suggestions. Your recipient is also able to choose their own kits after receiving the first box. A great gift for the casual cook in your life!
For the busy cook
Hello Fresh* – from £34.99 (for 3 meals for 2 people per week) Gift cards are also available
HelloFresh is, as the name suggests, one of the fresh meal subscription services. New easy to follow recipes from around the world are added every week, so there is always bound to be something everyone will love. Each box can be made for 2-4 people and all ingredients in the 3-5 meals are pre-portioned, so you have the exact amount you need. Therefore, perfect for the busy cook as the only preparation is chopping. The ingredients are delivered in an insulated box to keep them fresh if the recipient isn’t in. Another reason why it’s a great choice for the busy cook in your life!
For the new food discoverer
Degustabox* – from £38.97 (for a 3 month subscription)
I’ve been receiving a Degustabox for quite a while now and I’m always excited to see what’s inside. Each month your recipient will be sent a box full of 10-15 surprise products; many of which are new to the market. You get real value for money here as each box costs much less than buying the items separately. This one is a great choice if your recipient loves discovering new foods.
Happy shopping!
